WAYS AND PROBLEMS OF INTRODUCTION OF FIRE-PREVENTION WATER CURTAINS IN UKRAINE

Abstract

The issues covered in the current normative documentation and other sources of information on prevention (reduction) of dangerous factors of fire on people, industrial equipment, property and constructions of buildings and structures by application of fire-prevention water curtains are considered. These materials indicate the widespread use of this type of fire barrier for some facilities: for cooling and protection against thermal action of tanks with flammable substances and easy flammable liquids; to ensure high class (limit states) of fire resistance of fire barriers, in particular, irrigation of the surface of fire curtains, fire theater curtains, etc .;  as compensatory measures for additional protection, for example, sliding curtains in the openings of fire barriers intended for the passage of conveyors, etc. The analysis indicates the low over-regulation of this issue at the level of state standards. The results of preliminary analysis of the effectiveness of water curtains for shielding the negative effects of thermal radiation, smoke and hazardous gaseous products, both in fires and in the localization and elimination of other gas and hazardous situations and accidents. Perspective directions of carrying out of theoretical and experimental researches on the given question are outlined. It is planned to conduct theoretical, laboratory and field experimental studies on the interaction of water curtains with thermal radiation, fire combustion products - smoke and gaseous carbon oxide (IV) and carbon monoxide (II). It is planned to study water curtains in the form of polydisperse sprayed jets, finely sprayed jets and continuous descending streams. In order to improve the hydrodynamic characteristics of the water flow in the curtain, a study is planned on the use of appropriate chemical additives, for example, to reduce the turbulence of the flow, to reduce the surface tension of water and the like. According to the research results, it is planned to develop technical requirements for the use of fire water curtains.
